River Styx International Poetry Contest. A prize of $1500 and publication in River Styx is given annually for the best poem. Kim Addonizio will judge. Three poems maximum, up to fourteen pages per entry. Include $20 entry fee, which includes a one-year subscription to River Styx, by May 31st. See River Styx website for complete guidelines.

The St Louis Poetry Center announces its 49th annual Best Poem Contest.
First prize: $2,000 and publication in MARGIE.
Second Prize: $250.
Third Prize: $100.
The finalist judge is Robert Pinsky, a past Poet Laureate of the United States.
Guidelines:
1. Submit 3 unpublished poems & a $15 entry fee payable to The St. Louis Poetry Center (60 line limit per poem). Additional poems may be submitted for $5 each.
2. Enclose a single cover letter with your name, address, phone & poem titles. No names should appear on poems.
3. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable. Only send copies. Poems will not be returned. Include SASE to receive contest results.
4. All poems will be considered for publication.
5. Mail entry and fee by POST MARK DEADLINE OF MAY 31, 2008 to: The St. Louis Poetry Center, 567 North & South Rd., #8, St. Louis, MO, 63130. For more info, visit: www.stlouispoetrycenter.org.

St. Louis Poetry SLAM! This ongoing poetry contest happens every 3rd Wednesday until May, 2008. Offered by World In Motion, this program offers $50 cash prize to the best poet each week, audience judged. The top three poets are automatically qualified for the grand SLAM that happens in May, where a team is picked to represent St. Louis at the National Poetry SLAM. Every 3rd Wednesday, 8 PM, The Focal Point, 2720 Sutton, Maplewood.

St. Louis Writers Guild Annual Poetry Contest: The Deane Wagner Poetry contest will be accepting submissions from Tuesday, April 15, 2008 until Saturday, June 14, 2008.

Cash prizes for the top three place winners will be $200, $150, and $100, respectively, with three honorable mention awards of $10 a piece. Top place and Honorable Mention poems will also receive website publication and certificates, as well as a special public reading event.

Entrance fees are $10 for the first poem and $5 for each additional poem, with a limit of three poems.

Winners will be announced the week of June 29, 2008.

The judge of this year's contest is Harvey Stanbrough, a poet and writer whose works have been nominated for numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize. Stanbrough will present a special workshop on Saturday, April 5th, 2008. See the Center for the Humanities calendar for more details.
