WRITERS' CLUBS & WORKSHOPS

Are you looking for a place to listen to works-in-progress? Want a place to share your creative writing? Listed below is a selection of writers' workshops for you to consider. Call first to check what you need to bring. (Please note: some groups meet seasonally - phone before attending).


WRITERS' CLUBS

Baden Library Writers Group meets the first Thursday of the month at Baden Library, 8448 Church Road, St. Louis, MO 63147, 6-6:45pm. Free. For info, call (314) 388-2400.

Creative Writing Society meets once a month, 4pm. Meetings include readings, guest speakers, and fundraisers. 17 yrs and older. Student Center Room 209, St. Charles Community College. Email Karla Matson for more info.

Eugene B. Redmond Writers Club (EBR) meets the first and third Tuesday of each month from September to May in room 2085 of East St. Louis Community College Center, 601 J. R. Thompson Drive, East St. Louis, IL, 6:30-8:30pm. Phone (618) 874-8700 for info.

Flotilla 13 Artists and Writers Group, a multi-science fiction group, meets once a month to discuss creative works and art, Borders Brentwood, 1519 S. Brentwood Blvd, 2:30-4:30. (314) 918-8189.

Grand Glaize Branch Library hosts a Writers Workshop for writers 16+ the first Thursday of each month, 1010 Meramec Station Rd, Manchester, 7pm. Free. For info, phone (636) 225-6454.

Indigo Ink: The St. Louis Association of African-American Writers, meets twice a month to read and discuss members' prose, primarily fiction. For information, contact Eric Robinson at (618) 462-5590.

LAUREATES OF THE HEART Writers Group meets the first Friday of every month (unless otherwise noted) at the St. Louis Rock Road Branch Library, 10267 St. Charles Rock Road, St. Ann, MO 63074, 1 mile east of Lindbergh, 1-3pm.

(MoRWA) Romance Writers of America MO Chapter meets monthly at the Crestwood B&N bookstore on Watson Road. The business meetings start at 10am on the third Saturday of each month, followed at 11am by an hour long presentation and lunch. $25 yearly membership, $5 nonmembers per meeting.

Oasis holds writing workshops, book discussion groups, and education courses for adults aged 50 and over at various locations in the St. Louis area; there is a small fee for most classes. For information, contact (314) 539-4555 or write to them at 601 Olive St., 4th floor, St. Louis, MO 63101.

Saturday Writers Chapter of the Missouri Writers' Guild meets on the last Saturday of the month to read and discuss works in progress, O'Fallon Cultural Arts Center (top floor), 400 Civic Park Dr, 11am-1pm. You must be over 18, but you need not be a published writer or a Missouri Writers' Guild member to attend. Please bring up to five double spaced pages. For directions, call (636) 379-5606.

St. Louis Poetry Center hosts workshops on the third Sunday of each month, September-November, January-March, and May, at the University City Public Library, University City Library, 6701 Delmar, 2nd floor auditorium, from 1:30pm. Free. For info call (314) 831-2568.

St. Louis Publishers Association meets 6:30-9pm the second Wednesday of every month at the Richmond Heights Community Center, 8001 Dale Avenue, Richmond Hts. Community Center. $5 non-members. 314-205-2679.

St. Louis Writer's Guild, the oldest literary organization in St. Louis, holds a workshop the first Saturday of each month from 10am-12noon, B&N Watson, 9618 Watson Rd, free for members, $5 nonmembers; and holds regualr meetings the third Thursday of each month from 7-8pm, B&N Ladue, 8871 Ladue Rd.
